MAURICE LEVY, Managing Director

Maurice began his career with FEDEX and after 8 years in the United States, was promoted to Managing Director for Canada, growing a $9M acquisition to a $220M business in three short years. He was recruited by the private equity firm ONEX to the role of Senior Vice President of its holding, Purolator Courier, with a range of responsibilities that included sales, marketing, retail stores, customer automation, strategy, and customer service.

During Maurice’s tenure with Purolator, the business grew from $450M to nearly $1.2B. After the sale of Purolator to Canada Post, he returned to the U.S. and held senior leadership roles in both public and private companies including NetJets,/EJM/Berkshire Hathaway Companies and as COO of Dynamex.

Maurice started SmartVentures LP in 2001and began working with sales organizations in turnaround situations including Barzel/Nova Steel, Magnatrax/American Buildings. Maurice also serves on the Board and audit committee of Clark Holdings (AMEX:GLA) and formerly served as a Board member and investor at PLS Logistics and St Joseph’s Hospital of Toronto.

CONAL FINNEGAN, Director

Conal began his career as a Sales Representative at FedEx Corporation and was the recipient of numerous sales awards.  Before joining Smart Ventures in 2012, Conal spent 21 years in positions of progressive importance at Purolator Courier, Canada’s largest small package carrier, becoming a Vice President, member of the Executive Committee and Officer of the corporation.  During his tenure at Purolator, Conal led the Greenfield expansion of the company in the United States with revenues growing organically in excess of $100M.

Conal has extensive Sales and Supply Chain training and is active and knowledgeable in all aspects of the Global Supply Chain having contributed to numerous industry roundtables and publications.

WHITNEY ECKLER, Director

With over 20 years of C-Level Sales and Marketing experience in domestic U.S. and international companies, Whitney has a broad range of expertise in marketing and total business development and management. She has also resided and worked in Finland and Kuwait as well as undertaken business development initiatives in a variety of European, Asian, Middle East, and Latin American markets.

Fluent in German and with knowledge of French, Spanish, Finnish, and Arabic, Whitney’s global consumer products and manufacturing experience crosses multiple industries and includes decorative interior products, furniture, healthcare, logistics, packaging, construction, capital goods, and technology industries.

She started up the International Division for LouverDrape and served as interim Marketing manager for Dynamex. Her corporate background includes Maidenform, LouverDrape, National Semiconductor, and Wipak Oy and consulting experience with Everest Group International LLC and SmartVentures LP.

JOHN GWALTNEY, Director

John Gwaltney has spent the bulk of his sales career in the steel industry. Prior to joining Smart Ventures, John acted as Director of Sales for Barzel Industries. Previous to Barzel, John worked for Duferco Farrell as Eastern Regional Sales Manager.

Over the years, John has sold and marketed products for Wheeling Pittsburgh, ITW Signode, Enron and Ferrous Exchange.

John is a Chicago native and received his BA from Loyola University of Chicago.

DAVID PRENTICE, Sales Strategy and Training

David Prentice is one of North America’s most dynamic sales and marketing professionals. For over twenty years, he has worked on sales, marketing, and specialized customer service training projects with a down-to-earth, practical approach with many of North America’s most progressive organizations.

Dave’s client base reads like the “Who’s Who” of the Fortune 500 and has included: AT&T, IBM, Deloitte, Kraft, RBC Bank, TD Bank, Novartis, Bayer, GlaxoSmithKline, the Berkshire Hathaway Group, CIBC World Markets, Oracle, Microsoft, Cisco Systems, Disney, Nissan, and Honda.

Prior to consulting, Dave has held a variety of senior sales, sales training, and sales management positions with the Xerox Corporation, both in Canada and at the Xerox International Training Center in Leesburg, Virginia. Dave’s is a strong believer that “learning never stops”.


LUCY BERROTERAN, Associate

With nearly 30 years of experience as a senior financial executive, Lucy has a broad base of accounting and analytical skills.  Before joining Smart Ventures, Lucy spent 30 years in positions of increasing responsibility at JCPenney Co., Inc.  She has a wide range of retailing disciplines including finance, marketing, community relations and internet.  Her leadership has been recognized in various publications and she is featured in the book “Success on Her Own Terms” by Virginia O’Brien.  She is a licensed CPA.

For the past eight years, Lucy has worked extensively with US Military and Veteran Organizations – lending her business and financial expertise.  She continues her work in these areas with the USO and Honor Flight.

LYNN JONES, Associate

Lynn Jones, CRM Strategy Specialist, has a passion for helping organizations achieve their marketing, sales and business growth objectives. With over 23 years of experience working with organizations of various sizes in many different industries, she is excited to bring her experience to executive teams and help them build and execute their CRM strategies.

Lynn has held positions in sales, marketing, consulting and IT within many organizations including Microsoft, Adea Solutions, Onyx Software, Proamics Corporation, Texas Instruments, Sterling Software, EDS and American Airlines. Lynn has received many awards for her sales, marketing and “go to market” strategy work.

Successfully implementing CRM into any organization requires the appropriate alignment of people, process and technology. It also requires having a sales, marketing and customer service strategy that is aligned and supports the business growth goals of the organization. Lynn has extensive experience with multiple CRM technology offerings as well as developing and implementing the strategy with the executive team.
